Apple Bread

1/2 c. Shortening
1 c. Sugar
2 Eggs
2 c. Flour
1 tsp Soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp Sour Milk or 1 tsp Vinegar and enought Milk to equal 2 Tbsp
2 c. chopped (raw) cooking apples
1/2 c. nutmeats (optional)

Topping:
1 Tbsp Butter
2 Tbsp Flour
2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
1 Tbsp White Sugar
1 Tbsp Cinnamon

Preheat oven to 325 or 300. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Add Dry ingredients, vanilla, milk and mix well. Stir in apples and nuts. Pour into bread tin, 5x8x3-inch (grease pan). Put topping over top of bread then bake 50 minutes at 325 degrees or 60 minutes at 300 degrees.

Makes a nice loaf of bread. Turn upside down after it's cooked for a few minutes. I often use 2 cups frozen apples, thawed, they work fine.
